In the words of Jacob Collier, MusicFX DJ is a tool that allows users to "shape music and sound in real-time using a wide range of prompts".
We were asked to provide background music and work with the final mix for a cutdown of an hourlong livestream session Jacob Collier had, testdriving Google's experimental musical tool MusicFX DJ.
Working with the available audio assets—including a diverse range of tonal and atonal musical prompts uniquely generated during the livestream session by MusicFX DJ and Jacob Collier—we aimed to craft a mix that honored the spontaneity of the live production while refining problem frequencies. At the same time, we sought to complement Phil Evans’ vibrant animations. For the background music, our goal was to introduce a subtle rhythmic presence—one that remained unobtrusive yet effectively filled the sonic space without demanding attention.
